Cycling trips through Morocco

UPCOMMING TRIPS

Six days of riding through breathtaking landscapes. The first days are spent in the Wadi Sus region, where the route takes us alternately through old, stunning palm groves and semi-desert trails once traveled by ancient caravans. The second part of the trip includes a transfer to the High Atlas region. There, we will encounter valleys filled with olive groves, forests covered with ancient thujas, and, in the higher areas, impressive rocky peaks, where despite the altitude and harsh climate, we will meet the famously hospitable Berbers. For those who wish to extend their Moroccan experience and relax after the cycling adventure, we offer an additional 3 days in the coastal town of Taghazout. This charming town is a surfer’s paradise, offering beautiful beaches and excellent seafood.

Day 1

We wake up in a riad in Taroudant.

Taroudant is known as the “Little Marrakech,” and indeed, it possesses all the charms of Morocco’s Red City—beautiful old ochre-colored buildings, lazily swaying green palms in the wind, and the narrow, winding streets of the 16th-century medina. However, it is free from the crowds and persistent vendors. In the medina, you can find peace, shelter from the sun, and handmade souvenirs, while the city squares invite you to take a coffee break and tempt you with the scent of Moroccan delicacies. After sightseeing, we get on our bikes and ride along a gravel road that winds through the semi-desert terrain of the Wadi Sous valley. The route is about 30 kilometers long and is relatively flat (+ 250m). We arrive at the beautifully situated oasis of Tiout. This Berber village impresses with its dense palm grove, crisscrossed by streams, and the ruins of a castle overlooking it.

Day 2

The day greets us in the oasis. We will stay here for 2 nights to fully enjoy this magical place—exploring the palm grove and the local cooperative producing argan oil.

The cycling will be more challenging—up ahead is a 50-kilometer route through argan hills, with an elevation gain of approximately 900 meters.

Day 3

In the morning, without wasting time, we hop on our bikes and enjoy the surroundings of Tiout. The landscape is similar to the previous day’s route but shorter (about 35 km). In the afternoon, we board the bus and say goodbye to the oasis, as the next part of our journey takes us to the High Atlas Mountains.

We end the day with a visit to a traditional Moroccan hammam, where appropriate treatments will help relieve fatigue and prepare the body for further adventures.

Overnight stay in a small hotel in Imlil (1800m above sea level).

Day 4

For a change, we start the day with a hike, trekking 6 kilometers up to the Tizi Oussem pass. Meanwhile, our bikes are transported up… by mules. We descend on our bikes via a single track that begins in the rugged cliffs of the High Atlas, passing through dwarf pines and ancient, impressive thujas, and eventually descending to the village of Ourigane, nestled in the heart of olive groves.

25 km, 1500 m of descent.

Overnight stay in a villa with a pool in Ouirgane.

Day 5

After spending the night in Ouirgane, we get back on our bikes and tackle a strenuous climb back to the higher mountain regions. The effort is rewarded with absolutely breathtaking views of the eternally green Ouirgane Valley and the azure reservoir located in its center. We descend into the valley via a single track. 45 km, 1300 m+

Day 6

We say goodbye to the greenery of the olive groves in Ouirgane. From the valley, we climb by bike up to the pass, from where we descend to the Takkerkoust reservoir. The turquoise lake, the rust-colored earth, and the massive mountain range in the background—this view is worth every bit of effort! But the attractions don’t end there—an afternoon bike ride through the Agafay Desert is also planned. 55 km, 800 m of elevation gain.

Day 7

On this day, we won’t be biking. In the morning, we pack up our bikes and return to Agadir for the flight to Kraków or for a few days of relaxation by the ocean.
